Two years ago I drywalled my garage.  I figured it would be good practice before tackling the basement.  The most important thing I learned?  I don't want to drywall my basement!  So I decided to hire a professional.

Originally I thought I would do everything myself, just to save some money.  But now that I'm going on two years in the finishing of the basement, I decided it was time for a boost.  I figured I could spend every night for the next 3 months doing it myself, or I could contract it out and have it done in a week.

So that's what I did.  I found a great guy willing to do my basement as a "side job" at about a third of the cost of a place out of the Yellow Pages.  He was in and finished in about 8 days.

The picture above is the entrance to the basement.  You can see the decorative soffet as well as the drywalled bathroom.  What you can't see is the fine "light orange peel" texture.  This was sprayed on and gave a great overall appearance, with the rough surface of most "sand" finishes.

The picture to the right is the enterance to the office.  It also shows a good view of the soffet which hides the duct-work.  Here's the article describing it's construction.  It's dated March 1st, 2004.  That's a year and a half ago!

To say I needed a kick-start is an understatement.  But now the drywall is done and ready for paint.

These pictures also show the walls already primed.  The nice thing about painting an unfinished space is that there is no taping.  Since there is no wood work, ceiling, or carpeting, the painting goes very quick.

In this picture to the left you can also see the home theater projector mounted.  Soon this will be an actual home theater!
