Today I reached a milestone of the basement project. I finished framing the perimeter of the basement. This was probably the most complex span that I had to do, however, I've done enough framing by now that it didn't take too long to do. It figures, that by the time that I was getting fairly good at framing, I'll probably won't need to do any more.
Like the second long span, this section required framing around both a window and some duct work. Furthermore, because the wall ran parallel to the ceiling joists, there were only three places available to secure the wall to the ceiling. But again, like I did before, it just required added a few extra 2x4's as cross braces.
The only other point of interest was that, up until now, I always had an open end to place the new wall section into. In other words, usually I could put up the wall section and slide it into place. This time, the last piece had to fit exactly, so that I could secure it on each side. This also went pretty smoothly. I simply divided the last 16 foot section into one 12 foot and one 4 foot section. This way the 12 foot section would span the entire duct/window obstacles (making it more stable). The last 4 foot section was then small and light enough to muscle into position between the wall and the 12 foot section.
That just leaves one small partion wall, and some duct sofits and the framing will be complete!
