Garden Window
August 20, 2007

Our house is only about 15 years old but already all of the windows needed replacing.  Last winter, so much ice formed from the condensation I was afraid it would pop the window right open.  So this spring when we decided to get new replacement windows, we opted to replace our dining room window with a garden window.

The Swing Set
December 14, 2005

When we recived a gift from Karla's sister of a Playset, we couldn't have been happier.  However, after a few months of mowing the grass around the thing, I got tired of having to constantly trim it.  The solution was to make a nice bed of kid-friendly mulch.

Timer Switches
March 13, 2005

Click to read the article. When Karla and I first moved into this house, one little item caught my attention.  The vent fan in the bathroom had a spring-wound timer switch that you could use to keep the fan on for up to an hour at a time.  Unfortunately, about a year later, the spring mechanism started to stick.  And so my quest for the perfect Timer Switch began.

The Dryer Box: Part 2
November 21, 2004

After modifying our laundry room with the Dryer Box, I still couldn't push the dryer as close to the wall as I wanted to because the gas line was in the way.  So, after getting as estimate of $160 to move the line, I decided to move it myself.

The interesting thing about doing projects around the house is that you find out all of the places where the builders took short cuts.  This certainly was the case when I set out to replace the clothes dryer hook-ups in our laundry room

The Arch
October 11, 2004

Click to read the story. All summer I had been meaning to work on painting the trim of our house.  This meant replacing some rotting wood around our front window.  However, with the preparations needed for Kaylee's arrival, summer quickly turned to fall.

The Nursery

Frankenstien Shelves
July 6, 2004

There's really nothing like a good, over-engineered shelf.  For our basement storage room I constructed two, six foot high, 7 by 2 foot units where we could store practically anything.  I needed to do this so I could clear out the rest of the basement for it's continued finishing

Closet Organizer
November 6, 2003

One project Karla and I had been meaning to do since we moved into this house was to install a closet organizer in the master bedroom closet.  Most projects seem to take a little longer than you would expect, and this project was no different.

The Water Heater
February 12, 2004

Everybody knows that they should drain their water heater periodically, yet hardley anyone does.  Why?  Mostly because it's usually a complete pain in the butt.  The cheap, manufacturer installed valves get all corroded, and what water you can get to seep out is scalding your hands as you try to turn the dail.

The Hulk!
November 5, 2003

This years Halloween costume was probably my best costume ever.  I was the Hulk!  But it wasn't easy.  When all was said and done, Karla and I spent close to 20 hours on this costume.  Click on the picture to find out how we did it...
